Our Ambassadors

Children of Gaza works with athletes who are willing to use their public profile to keep attention on the children of Gaza. Being an ambassador is not simply about lending a name to the campaign.

Our ambassadors can take part in events, speak publicly, support fundraising for our charity partners and help introduce the campaign to other people within sport. Most importantly, they bring their own voices.

Anwar El Ghazi

Anwar El Ghazi has been one of the athletes most closely associated with Children of Gaza. The Dutch professional footballer has played at the highest levels of European football, with a career that has included Ajax, Lille, Aston Villa, Everton and PSV Eindhoven.

His involvement with Children of Gaza is not about the clubs on his CV: Anwar has been willing to use the profile football has given him to speak publicly about Gaza, at real personal cost.

He captained the Anwar El Ghazi XI at our 2024 Children of Gaza football match in London and later appeared at our In Conversation With event alongside Sam Morsy, Hamza Choudhury and Moeen Ali. Anwar is also an ambassador for Children Not Numbers, our current charity partner.

Sam Morsy

Sam Morsy is an experienced professional footballer and former Egypt international who has played hundreds of senior matches in English football.

Sam captained the Nujum Sports XI at our 2024 football event against the Anwar El Ghazi XI, and returned the following year for In Conversation With at Conway Hall.

His involvement reflects what we want the ambassador programme to be: athletes choosing to take part because the subject matters to them, and given the space to express that in their own way.

Hamza Choudhury

Hamza Choudhury is a professional footballer and Bangladesh international. Having developed through Leicester City’s academy, Hamza went on to play Premier League football and win the FA Cup, before later representing Bangladesh at senior international level.

His career and international profile have given him a strong connection with football supporters across Britain’s Muslim and South Asian communities.

Hamza has taken part in both our football match and our In Conversation With event, and is the face of our current fundraising event.
